Techline began in the mid 1980's when three brothers
- Mitch, Dean, and Brian Crouser were athletes on the U.S. Olympic
Committee's Elite Athlete Project. This program was developed
to enhance top U.S. Athlete's performances by improving their
training and nutrition. All three were world class track and
field athletes - Mitch in the discus, Dean in the shot and discus,
and Brian in the javelin. They were ideal test subjects because
of the high intensity level of their 7-days-a-week training
schedule combined with their detailed training diaries which
had recorded their athletic progress over the past several years.
After being involved in the Elite Athlete
Project for two years, it became obvious that the nutritional
supplements were making a positive difference in each one's
training progress. At that point Mitch and Dean decided to further
pursue the aspect of nutrition as it related to improving athletic
performance. They began working with nutritional chemists in
an attempt to develop supplements that would really make a difference
for the serious athlete. Early on they developed amino acid
formulas and carbohydrate drink mixes, but they wanted something
more.
As a result they developed Meta
Tech, an all-in-one anabolic muscle growth formula.
The marketing for Meta Tech was simple: athlete's tried the
product, they got good results, and told other athlete's about
it. It was at this time that Mitch and Dean
made the decision that for Techline products, the money would
go into the product itself, rather than into advertising, which
was what virtually all other supplement companies were doing.
New products were slowly added to the Techline label as the
two brothers felt there was a legitimate need for them. They
decided to pass on the fad products" that were hot sellers for
a few months and never seen again, which the sports nutrition
industry is notoriously known for.
The fact that the original Techline products
are still here and still make up the cornerstones of an athlete's
supplement program are testament to the philosophy of staying
with quality rather than chasing after the constantly changing
fads.
Now, 20 years later, Techline continues to put
money into the products rather than advertising. Techline continues
to grow by word of mouth…Athletes using the products, getting
good results, and telling others about it. An example of this
is in the 2005 Emerald Cup Bodybuilding Competition. The Emerald
Cup is the largest competition held each year in the Northwest.
In the 2005 Emerald Cup, seven different athletes using Techline
products finished in the top 3 spots for their respective
categories including the overall winner - that speaks for itself.
